The Forester men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 6-3 before falling 8-1 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the 25th-ranked team in the nation. Lake Forest sophomore Ellis Lora-Arceo won in both doubles and singles play against Oshkosh.
Lora-Arceo and junior Jordan Stoler posted a 9-7 victory at #3 doubles but the Foresters still trailed 2-1 going into singles play.
After Oshkosh finished off a win at #2 singles, Lake Forest prevailed at each of the other five positions in the lineup. Junior John Snider posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #4 and Lora-Arceo tied the match at three with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #3. The first career victory for freshman Dan Pivonka, a 6-3, 6-2 decision at #1, gave the Foresters the lead and sophomore Dragan Trivanovic clinched the team's triumph when he finished off a 5-7, 6-1, (10-5) win at #5. Freshman Nick Rehm defeated his opponent 6-4 in both sets at #6 for his first career victory.
Rehm earned the Foresters' only point against Whitewater, which is ranked 25th in the country and seventh in the Central Region. After dropping the first set 6-3, Rehm took the second 6-4 and the super tiebreaker 10-5 to secure the win and post a 2-0 record at #6 singles on the day.
Lake Forest is now 1-2 on the season. Oshkosh fell to 0-4 and Whitewater improved to 2-3.
The Foresters will be in action again next Sunday at Five Seasons in Burr Ridge, Illinois. They will take on Wabash College at 2:30 p.m. and host Elmhurst College at 5:30.
