Lake Forest College men's hockey player Mark Esshaki was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in the Foresters' sweep of visiting Nazareth College over the weekend.
Esshaki, a senior defenseman, assisted on the official game-winning goal in the Foresters' 4-1 victory over the Golden Flyers Friday night. The power play score gave the home team a 2-0 advantage early int he second period.
Lake Forest hosted and defeated Nazareth 6-0 on Saturday. In addition to keeping the visitors off the scoreboard, Esshaki set up half of the Foresters' goals on the afternoon.
Esshaki now has a dozen points this season, which ranks tied-for-second in the nation among defensemen. Just five players in the country at any position have more than his 10 assists so far this year.
