Senior forward Jack Lewis assisted on all three Lake Forest goals in the Forester men's hockey team's 3-2 victory over visiting University of Wisconsin-River Falls Friday night.
Lewis, who entered the contest leading the nation with eight goals on the year, joined senior defenseman Travis Hill in assisting junior forward Charlie Izagiurre on the game's first goal at the 15:36 mark of the opening period. It was Izaguirre's third score this season.
Lake Forest out-shot the Falcons 12-7 in the game's first 20 minutes and led 1-0 at the first intermission, despite committing five of the nine penalties in the period.
After River Falls tied the game on a power play goal three-and-a-half minutes into the second, the Foresters regained the lead at 6:56 on a goal by sophomore forward Bron Loiselle. Lewis and freshman defenseman Connor Duncan assisted on Loiselle's second score of the year.
Both teams had a pair of penalties and Lake Forest had a 13-6 edge in shots on goal in the second period.
The Falcons tied the contest again at the 6:20 mark of the third but the home team answered just 38 seconds later with what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The power play score came off the stick of senior defenseman Mark Esshaki with Lewis and Duncan assisting. It was the second goal this season and second career game-winner for Esshaki.
The Foresters' advantage in shots on goal during the third was slight at 9-8 and the home team took three more penalties to the Falcons' two in the period.
Lake Forest sophomore goaltender George Argiropoulos tallied 19 saves on the night and improved to 3-1-0 on the season.
The non-conference victory raised the Foresters' overall record on the year to 5-3-0 while River Falls fell to 1-6-0.
Lake Forest will host the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the 15th-ranked team in the nation, Saturday night at 7:00.
