Lake Forest Routs Grinnell 54-10

Lake Forest Routs Grinnell 54-10

Junior Charlie Quinn rushed for 142 yards on 13 carries and was one of two Forester tailbacks to score three touchdowns in a 54-10 victory at Grinnell College on Saturday.

Quinn's 10.9 yards per carry average is the fifth-best single-game mark in program history and he moved ahead of Tom Woodard (1966-69) for sixth place in team annals with 1,827 career rushing yards. He scored the game's first six points on a five-yard run on the team's second drive of the game, added a four-yard touchdown later in the first quarter, and reached the end zone from 51 yards out late in the second. It was his second career three-touchdown game.

Forester sophomore tailback Nikko Italia ran for his first career score from the one yardline early in the second quarter and scored from the six and the nine in the third. He finished the contest with a career-high 69 yards on 11 attempts.

Senior wideout George Vidas led all receivers in the game with 100 yards on five catches and scored on a 33-yard pass from freshman quarterback Jagan Cleary in the first quarter. Cleary, who was 8-for-16 for 100 yards in the contest, also connected with senior wide receiver Willie McIntyre on a six-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Sophomore safety R.J. Pompey and cornerback Mitch Coha led the Lake Forest defense with six tackles apiece. Senior linebacker Austin Van Meter and defensive lineman Mike Hilliard helped out in the scoring column by sacking the Pioneer quarterback in the end zone for a safety in the first quarter. The only Grinnell turnover of the afternoon was a fumble forced and recovered by Forester sophomore Isaac Barthelmess on a kickoff in the second quarter.

Lake Forest is now 4-5 overall on the season and the Foresters finished their Midwest Conference South Division schedule tied for second in the division at 3-2. Grinnell is now 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the South.

The Foresters will close out the season at Ripon College next Saturday. The third-seeded teams from the league's divisions will face off at 1:00 p.m.
