The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Tuesday the members of the 2014 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. A total of 838 players from 267 schools qualified for membership in the society's seventh year, including Lake Forest College's Ed Dobernig, Michael Garetto-Balmer, and Jake Rotkvich.
Dobernig, a cornerback, finished his four seasons ranked tied-for-fourth in program history with a dozen career interceptions. He also amassed 154 tackles, forced four fumbles, recovered three fumbles, and scored a pair of defensive touchdowns. Dobernig was named First Team All-Midwest Conference each of the last two seasons and Second Team All-West Region by D3football.com this past fall. He is also a two-time Academic All-MWC honoree.
Garetto-Balmer, a defensive lineman, also earned First Team All-MWC honors in 2013 after being named to the Second Team as a junior. He made 112 tackles in his career, including 18.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks, and added four forced fumbles. Garetto-Balmer was twice named Academic All-MWC and also earned Capital One Academic All-District accolades from the College Sports Information Directors of America in 2013.
Rotkvich, another defensive lineman, is another two-time All-MWC selection. He completed his career with 146 tackles and ranks fifth in program history with 19.0 sacks and seventh with 30.0 tackles for loss. He is a two-year team captain and was voted the Foresters' Most Valuable Player following the 2013 season. Rotkvich also earned Academic All-MWC honors in 2012.
