Lake Forest College football player Jon Gurchak was named Midwest Conference Special Teams Performer of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Foresters' 15-7 victory over visiting Grinnell College on Saturday.
Gurchak, a sophomore kicker and punter, was 2-for-3 on field goals in the game, connecting from 35 yards in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth. His only miss was a school record-tying 50-yard attempt that bounced back off the crossbar early in the fourth quarter.
Despite a pair of high snaps, including one that caused him to run to his right to avoid the defense before getting his foot on the ball, Gurchak averaged 34.5 yards on eight punts. The Pioneers were only able to return three of the punts for a total of 22 yards.
Gurchak leads the Foresters with 18 points so far this season. He is 9-for-9 on extra points and 3-for-4 on field goals and has averaged 35.6 yards per punt.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Gurchak also earned the award on September 9.
