D3football.com released its All-West Region Teams on Monday and Lake Forest College's Ed Dobernig was a Second Team selection.
Dobernig, a senior cornerback, led the Midwest Conference with 15 passes defended, including three interceptions he returned a total of 60 yards. He ranked fourth on the team with 50 tackles and added a forced fumble as well as a fumble recovery he turned into a 33-yard touchdown. Dobernig recorded at least one tackle in every game and five or more seven times.
In 36 games over the last four seasons, Dobernig has picked off a dozen passes and ranks tied-for-fourth in program history in that category. He has also made 154 tackles, including 110 solos, forced three fumbles, recovered four fumbles, and scored a pair of defensive touchdowns.
Dobernig was also a First Team All-MWC selection and earned the league's Defensive Player of the Week award once this season and twice in his career. D3football.com named him to its Team of the Week twice in 2013 and three times in his career.
Lake Forest posted an 8-2 overall record and 7-2 mark in MWC play this season. Dobernig helped lead a defense that surrendered the fewest yards and points per game in the league and ranked among the top 10 in the nation in third down conversion percentage, pass efficiency, and interceptions. The Foresters were also 20th in the country in scoring defense, 21st in total yards allowed per game, and 24th in turnovers forced.
