Featuring seven Foresters, the Stars and Stripes Team defeated Mexico 29-7 in the 2013 Tazon de Estrellas on Saturday. Lake Forest defensive back Nick Waters (#36) was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Division III all-star game.
Waters made a team-high eight tackles in the contest, including four solos. Forester linebacker John Dillon and defensive back Ed Dobernig added four and three tackles, respectively, and Dobernig recorded the team's only tackle for loss. Linebacker Jordan Cruz and defensive linemen Jake Rotkvich and Michael Garetto-Balmer chipped in with one tackle apiece. Rotkvich was one of the team's captains for the game.
Lake Forest's only representative on offense was tight end Greg Alonso, who had a pair of receptions for 16 yards during an 85-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter.
The game was played at Estadio Tecnologico on the Tec de Monterrey campus in Monterrey, Mexico. Twenty-seven NCAA Division III institutions were represented on the Stars and Stripes' 52-man roster.
