Lake Forest Falls to St. Norbert

Lake Forest Falls to St. Norbert

The Forester football team was defeated 41-6 by visiting St. Norbert College on Saturday. Senior wide receiver Kevin Davis scored the lone touchdown for Lake Forest on a 21-yard run.

Davis' scamper to the end zone was on a fourth-and-four play with 2:50 to play in the first half. It cut the St. Norbert lead at the time to 14-6.

The Green Knights reached the end zone with 28 seconds to play before halftime and led 21-6 after the game's first 30 minutes. They pulled away with six points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth.

Davis led the home team with eight catches for 91 yards, which extended his team record for receiving yards in a season to 1,185 and brought him within five receptions of wide receivers coach Dan Carter's program best 77-catch season in 2009.

Sophomore linebacker Jordan Cruz led the Lake Forest defense with 13 tackles and freshman John Preston added 10. Preston also forced a first quarter fumble that sophomore defensive back Ed Dobernig returned 27 yards. Senior defensive lineman Casey Flynn also recovered a fumble and senior safety Aidan Price recorded his second interception of the year.

It was the final home game for Davis, Flynn, Price, and fellow seniors Luke Butts, Mike Nelson, Brock Ungvarsky, Ari Lifschutz, Dylan Burke, Gilbert Munoz, Salvador Perales, Dan McSparin, and Kenneth Clady Mason. The 11 players and their parents were honored on the field before the contest and all the Forester parents were recognized on the field at halftime.

Lake Forest finished the Midwest Conference portion of its schedule with an overall and league record of 3-6. St. Norbert closed out the year with an overall mark of 7-3 and MWC record of 7-2.

In two weeks the Foresters will finish their game at Concordia University Chicago that was suspended on September 3 due to lightning. Lake Forest was leading the contest 28-26 with 7:20 to play in the second quarter.
