The Forester women's tennis team competed in the Midwest Conference Doubles Tournaments on Saturday. Sophomore Melika Celebic and junior Nonie Carson combined for a runner-up finish at #1.
Celebic and Carson defeated the top duo from Beloit College 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and outlasted the #1 team from Grinnell College 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 in the semifinals. In the championship they dropped the first set to Lawrence University 6-1 and battled the Vikings to a second-set tiebreaker, which they lost 7-1.
The Foresters' #2 doubles team of freshman Aimee Fadden and senior Deepika Ramachandran defeated the team from Ripon College 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before falling to St. Norbert 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals.
At #3 Lake Forest freshman Nicole Stroner and senior Natalie Atroshenko prevailed 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 against St. Norbert in the quarterfinals but fell 6-2, 6-2 to Grinnell in the semifinals.
The league's singles tournaments will be played tomorrow.
