The Lake Forest College women's tennis team hosted and defeated Beloit College 8-0 on Sunday. An 8-5 victory at #1 doubles was the eighth in a row for sophomore Melika Celebic and junior Nonie Carson, matching the third-longest streak in team history.
Celebic's 6-1, 6-1 at #1 singles was also her eighth in a row as an individual. Carson did not lose a game at #2 singles.
The middle of the lineup was just as effective. Freshman Aimee Fadden and senior Deepika Ramachandran started the contest with an 8-3 triumph at #2 doubles. Fadden routed her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles and Ramachandran outlasted Beloit's #4 player 6-2, 5-7, (10-8).
Senior Lauren Stroner and freshman Nicole Stroner posted an 8-5 victory at #3 doubles. Lauren also won 6-3, 6-4 at #5 singles and Nicole's match at #6 went unfinished due to darkness.
The Foresters' 10 victories (against just two losses) in 2010 ties the fifth-highest single-season total in team history.
Select Lake Forest players will be in action next weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament at Washington University St. Louis. The Foresters next dual match will be at Carroll University on Tuesday, October 5.
