The Lake Forest College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory at Benedictine University on Thursday. Senior Lauren Stroner returned to the lineup after missing three matches due to illness and helped the Foresters raised their record to 4-1.
The Foresters started the contest by taking two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Melika Celebic and junior Nonie Carson came out on top of an 8-3 decision at #1 and, at #3, freshman Nicole Stroner and senior Natalie Atroshenko prevailed 8-1.
Celebic also won at the top of the singles lineup, defeating Benedictine's best player 6-0, 6-3. Carson posteda 6-2, 6-1 victory at #2 and freshman Aimee Fadden remained undefeated in singles this year with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at #3. Lauren Stroner got off to a slow start at #4 but edged out her opponent 7-5 in the first set tiebreak before taking the second set 6-2. At #5 and #6, respectively, Atroshenko (6-3, 6-1) and Nicole Stroner (6-3, 6-0) made it a Forester sweep of the singles matches.
"I was happy with the win," stated head coach Jason Box. "Midweek matches are always tough because the players need to be focused on their academic responsibilities, so it's good to pull out the victory on the road."
The Foresters will player their second home match of the season Sunday at 11:00 a.m. when they host defending Midwest Conference champion St. Norbert College.
