Rain forced the Lake Forest College women's tennis team to wait several hours before taking on host Monmouth College on Saturday. Freshman Aimee Fadden was one of six Foresters to win in both singles and doubles play during the 9-0 triumph. It was Lake Forest's first Midwest Conference South Division match of the season adn raised the team's overall record to 7-1.
The visitors won 8-2 at #1 doubles (sophomore Melika Celebic and junior Nonie Carson), 8-5 at #2 (Fadden and senior Deepika Ramachandran), and 8-1 at #3 (senior Lauren Stroner and freshman Nicole Stroner).
Celebic needed a 7-0 tiebreak victory to win the first set at #1 singles and a 6-4 triumph in the second to take the match. Carson's 6-2, 6-1 victory at #2 and Fadden's 8-0 win at #3 were more convincing. Ramachandran prevailed 7-5, 6-4 at #4, Lauren Stroner lost just one game in each set at #5, and Nicole Stroner blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #6.
Lake Forest was supposed to play at Knox College as well on Saturday but the match was postponed until tomorrow due to rain. The Foresters' Saturday schedule now consists of a match against Grinnell College at 9:30 a.m., followed by the contest with Knox and another match-up against Illinois College. All three will count toward the Foresters' MWC South Division record.
