Tobi Limke, a Lake Forest College swimmer from 1993 to 1997, was listed among the top 100 student-athletes in the 100-year history of the Midwest Conference (MWC) on Thursday.
As the MWC continues to celebrate 100 years of intercollegiate competition, it announced the release of the Centennial Celebration Top 100 on February 26. The Top 100 highlights the athletic and academic achievements of 100 former student-athletes from the fifteen institutions that currently sustain, or at some point in history maintained full membership with the league. The Top 100 reveal began on March 1 with the unveiling of honorees in chronological order by their respective class years. The league posts two honorees each weekday on its website and social media accounts.
As a 21-time conference champion, 3-time MWC Swimmer of the Year, and 9-time All-American, Limke is arguably one of the most accomplished women's swimmer in the history of the league.
Limke won a pair of individual events and two relay titles as the Foresters placed second at the conference meet her freshman year. Lake Forest captured the next three league titles and she was the MWC Swimmer of the Year in each of those seasons. Limke finished her career having finished first at all four conference championships in the 200 backstroke and three times each in the 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley. She was also a member of 11 victorious relay teams.
Limke was also extremely successful at the national level, earning Honorable Mention All-American accolades as a freshman before leading the Foresters to top-20 team finishes her junior and senior years. Limke finished in the top eight in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley both seasons and helped Lake Forest place in the top 16 in the 200 and 400 medley relays in 1996. She closed out her career by posting a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke and placing fifth in her other two individual events at the 1997 NCAA Division III Championship Meet.
A double-major in environmental studies and biology, Limke was named Academic All-MWC each of the three years she was eligible for the award. She was also awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship, which she used to earn a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology from Michigan State University.
Limke was a 2007 inductee into the Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Fame, receiving the honor in her first year of eligibility.
