Junior guard Sean Espinosa scored 34 points, dished out 10 assists, grabbed seven rebounds, and added three steals Wednesday night as Lake Forest hosted and defeated Lawrence University 108-76.
Espinosa had 20 points in the first half and his five assists in that period tied him with Patrick Hanley for first place in program history with 342. The Foresters led 61-35 at halftime and the record-breaker came on a three-pointer by senior wing Aram Arslanian that made the score 74-41 with 15:27 to play. Lawrence got no closer than 23 points the rest of the way.
Lake Forest senior guard Sam Husting also scored 20 points in the game's first 20 minutes and finished the evening with a season-high 27, surpassing the 25 he scored at Beloit College on Saturday. Husting knocked down six three-pointers in 11 attempts while Espinosa was 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and 7-for-10 from inside it. Arslanian was next on the team with 19 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists and junior wing Michael Drew Jr. finished with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Foresters' 27 assists in the contest were their second-highest total of the season and the home team shot nearly 60 percent from the field while making 14 of 28 three-pointers. Lake Forest out-rebounded the Vikings 37-31 and forced 15 turnovers while committing just six, one more than its season-best.
The victory improved the Foresters' overall record to 11-10 and kept the team in fourth place in the Midwest Conference standings at 8-6 in the league. Lawrence fell to 9-13 overall ad 9-10 in MWC play.
Lake Forest will travel to Illinois College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game against the Blueboys.
