Junior guard Sean Espinosa's stat line included 25 points, nine assists, and five steals as Lake Forest rolled to an 89-58 victory Saturday afternoon at Beloit College.
Espinosa, the 17th-leading scorer in program history, is now tied-for-second team team annals with 337 career assists, five shy of Patrick Hanley's school record. He also ranks eighth with 116 career steals.
Lake Forest senior guard Sam Husting matched Espinosa for game-high scoring honors, shooting 6-for-11 from three-point range and adding five rebounds along the way. He moved past Bryan Bertola for fourth place in program history with 174 career three-pointers. Freshman guard Aidyn Albright also reached double figures with 15 points on five three-pointers in 10 attempts.
The Foresters shot 16-for-23 on the day from beyond the arc and 17-for-32 from inside it. They also limited the Buccaneers to just 42.6 percent shooting, including a 7-for-24 performance on three-pointers. Thanks in part to a season-high 11 rebounds from junior wing Michael Drew Jr., the visitors finished with a 36-29 edge on the boards and Lake Forest also committed just seven turnovers while forcing 13.
Husting connected on a trio of three-pointers and scored 11 points as the Foresters jumped out to a 14-6 lead in less than five minutes of play. His fourth three-pointer of the afternoon gave Lake Forest a 20-point lead late in the first half, which ended with the visitors on top 45-24.
The margin grew to 31 points after a 12-0 Forester run early in the second half and the lead eventually reached 40 at 82-42 with eight minutes left.
Lake Forest's 12th consecutive victory over Beloit evened the team's overall record at 10-10 and improved its Midwest Conference mark to 7-6. Beloit fell to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in the league.
The Foresters will host Lawrence University Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
