The Lake Forest College men's basketball team routed visiting Monmouth College 89-33 on Saturday. Freshman guard James Stack finished with a career-high 10 points and was one of three Foresters to score in double figures in the game.
Stack was 3-for-6 from the field and made both of his attempts from three-point range. He also recorded a game-high four steals. Junior post player Don Duncan also set new career-highs with 11 points and six rebounds.
All 15 Foresters played in the game and 13 scored, led by sophomore Jeff Beck with 16. He shot 6-for-7 from the field and made both of his tries from three-point range and the free throw line. Junior post player Travis Clark scored six points, dished out three assists, and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Junior guard David Pilalis led all players in the contest with five assists.
Lake Forest shot a blistering 63.6 percent from the field and 72.7 percent on three-pointers in the first half. The Foresters finished at 54.4 percent from the floor and made half of their 22 shots from beyond the arc. Monmouth was held to 23.4 percent shooting from the field for the game. The home team out-rebounded the Fighting Scots 46-19 and committed just 15 of the game's 35 turnovers.
The Foresters jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and had 30 points before the visitors reached double figures. A 15-0 Lake Forest run extended the difference to 33 points and the home team led 55-16 at halftime.
The margin reached the 40s early in the second half and a 17-1 run over the final six minutes of the contest resulted in the second-largest margin of victory in program history. The team record was set 34 years ago in a 104-42 win over Niles College. The 33 points allowed tied the program record set 15 years ago against St. Norbert College.
Lake Forest evened its overall record on the season at 10-10 and raised its Midwest Conference mark to 8-7. Monmouth fell to 3-17 overall and 1-14 in the league.
