The Lake Forest College men's basketball team dropped a 62-60 decision at Lawrence University on Saturday and fell to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Junior post player Travis Clark led the Foresters with 21 points.
Clark also pulled down eight rebounds and recorded three steals. He shot 9-fpr-17 from the field in the contest.
Lake Forest junior guard David Pilalis made four of eight attempts from three-point range and was next on the team with 14 points. Sophomore guard Jeff Beck scored a dozen points and led the visitors with nine rebounds and three assists.
The Foresters shot just 38.2 percent from the floor while Lawrence made 54.2 percent of its field goal attempts. Lawrence took an early 15-6 lead before Lake Forest used a 16-6 run to take the lead with 5:53 to play in the opening period. The Vikings regained the lead and had a 29-27 avantage at halftime.
The home team led by as many as eight points early in the second half. The Vikings did not relinquish their lead until Beck tied the score at 59 on a layup with 16 seconds on the clock. He was fouled on the play and made the free throw, putting the Foresters ahead by one. A three-pointer with just two seconds left, however, gave Lawrence the victory.
The Vikings are now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Lake Forest will play a non-conference game at North Central College next Tuesday night at 7:30. A live radio webcast and live stats will be available on the Cardinals' website.
