Lake Forest College football player Alex Bendler was named to D3football.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in Saturday's 13-7 triumph at the University of Chicago.
Bendler and the rest of the Forester defense limited the Maroons to 240 total yards, 158 fewer than they averaged in the first nine games of the year. The victory clinched a share of the 2022 Midwest Conference title for Lake Forest and secured the team's spot in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
Bendler finished the contest with eight tackles, three sacks and three more stops behind the line of scrimmage. The senior defensive end also forced a fumble early in the second quarter and blocked a field goal attempt in the third.
With 20.5 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks this season, Bendler leads the league and ranks among the top 10 in the nation in both categories. He is now fourth in program history with 22.5 sacks and tied-for-fourth with 39.5 tackles for loss in his career.
D3football.com began naming a Team of the Week in 1999 and Bendler is the 26th Lake Forest player to be honored. He is also the fourth this season, joining Trenton Brail, Damon Bonds, and Jaylen Johnson.
