The Forester women's tennis team defeated host Knox College 8-1 on Saturday. Senior Melika Celebic and freshman Christi Valicenti were victorious at the top of the doubles and singles lineups.
Celebic and Valicenti won 8-2 at #1 doubles to improve their record at that position to 9-3. Sophomore Gracie Mullins and freshman Grace Dowling prevailed 8-1 at #2 and are now 10-2 as doubles partners in dual matches. Sophomore Lucy Cooper and junior Elina Shapiro posted an 8-4 victory at #3 in their first match together.
Celebic quickly finished off a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 singles and Dowling clinched the team's victory with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at #3. Mullins won both sets 6-2 at #4 and Valicenti recorded a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) come-from-behind victory at #2. Cooper did not lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0 rout at #6.
The Foresters improved to 11-2 overall this season and posted a perfect 5-0 record in Midwest Conference South Division matches. Knox fell to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the division.
Lake Forest will be the MWC South Division's top seed in next Friday's team championship tournament in Rockford, Illinois. Semifinal play will begin at 8:30 a.m.
