Lake Forest College women's tennis player Melika Celebic was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Wednesday for her performance in the Foresters' first four matches of the season.
After missing last season while studying abroad, Celebic, a senior, started 2012 with an 8-1 victory at #1 doubles and a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the top spot in the singles lineup against visiting Benedictine University last Thursday. The Foresters won the match 8-0.
Lake Forest also prevailed 6-3 at St. Norbert College on Friday. Celebic won 8-3 in doubles and 7-5, 6-4 in singles.
The Foresters posted a pair of victories on the road on Saturday, edging out Lawrence University 5-4 and routing Ripon College 8-1. After falling 8-6 in doubles, Celebic defeated Lawrence's top singles player 6-0, 6-3. She added a pair of more convincing victories at Ripon, winning 8-0 in doubles and 6-1 in both sets in singles.
Celebic was 3-1 in doubles and 4-0 in singles on the week.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Celebic also earned the award once as a sophomore.
