The Lake Forest College women's basketball raised its overall
record to 12-3 and Midwest Conference mark to 8-0 with a 74-44
victory at home over Beloit College on Saturday (January 23). The
Buccaneers fell to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in league play.
After scoring 27 points and pulling down 10 rebounds Friday night,
senior center Lisa Nassin
(Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) notched another double-double
with a game-high 16 points and 10 boards on Saturday. She shot
7-for-10 from the field and is now just 36 points shy of 1,000 for
her career.
Senior guard Kate
Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) was next on the team with nine
points while classmates Tracy Rainey
(Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and Claire
Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and freshman forward
Liz
Radtke (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin West) added eight points
apiece. Grunauer shot 3-for-3 from three-point range and dished out
a team-high four assists. Rainey, a guard, and Schmidt, a forward,
led the squad with three steals each.
Lake Forest shot exactly 50 percent from the field and knocked down
16 of 20 free throws. Beloit posted a .326 field goal percentage
and committed 25 turnovers. The Foresters out-rebounded the
Buccaneers 37-23 and had 19 turnovers.
A 9-0 Beloit run gave the visitors a 15-8 lead with 12:26 to play
in the opening period. Lake Forest then scored 18 points while
holding the Bucs scoreless for nearly 10 minutes. The Forester lead
reached as many as 15 points in the final minute before a Beloit
three-pointer at the buzzer made the score 32-20 in favor of the
home team at halftime.
The Foresters increased their lead early in the second half and led
by at least 20 points for the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The Foresters will travel to Illinois College Wednesday (January
27) for a 5:30 p.m. game. A live video webcast of the contest will
