The Forester women's basketball team posted a 75-63 victory at
Milwaukee School of Engineering Monday night (November 23). Lake
Forest is now 3-1 on the season while the Raiders fell to 1-1.
For the second straight game, five Foresters scored in doubles
figures. Senior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop
McNamara) led the way with 16 points and she also pulled down a
team-high seven rebounds and added a pair of steals. Senior center
Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) and senior guard
Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) were next on the squad with
14 points apiece. Rainey made five of six field goal attempts and
chipped in with five rebounds. Freshman guard Sam Schuring (Elk
Grove, Calif./Elk Grove) scored 13 points, pulled down five
rebounds, dished out four assists and added three steals. Senior
guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) scored 11 points and led
the team with five assists.
Lake Forest shot 48 percent from the field, 4-for-10 from beyond
the three-point arc, and 23-for-31 from the free throw line.
Milwaukee School of Engineering connected on 39.2 percent of their
field goal attempts, including just two of 11 from three-point
range, and knocked down 21 of 27 foul shots. The Raiders
out-rebounded the Foresters 29-27 but committed 23 of the game's 42
turnovers.
The Foresters scored the game's first four points and did not trail
during the first half. An 8-0 Lake Forest run late in the period
extended the lead to double figures and the visitors were ahead
36-25 at halftime.
The Raiders outscored the Foresters 18-4 during the first seven
minutes of the second half to take a 43-40 lead. The home team led
55-51 after a layup with 7:13 left on the clock but Lake Forest
scored the game's next eight points to regain the advantage.
Another 8-0 run by the visitors in the final two minutes secured
the victory.
The Foresters will be on the road again next Monday (November 30)
in another non-conference game at Carthage College. The contest
will begin at 7:30 p.m.
