The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated
59-58 at Carroll University Friday evening (February 5). The
Foresters fell to 14-5 overall and 10-2 in Midwest Conference play
while the Lady Pioneers raised their overall record to 11-8 and
evened their league mark at 6-6.
Senior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led
Lake Forest with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. It was
the fifth time this season that she reached double figures in both
categories. Junior guard Emily Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills
School) was next on the squad with 12 points and she added three
assists and four steals. Senior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago,
Ill./Marist) scored eight points and matched Weber's assist and
steal totals.
The Foresters shot 41 percent from the field while Carroll was
slightly better at 43.2 percent. Both teams made one-fourth of
their three-pointers but the Lady Pioneers knocked down 19 of 22
free throws while Lake Forest made just five of eight foul shots.
The Foresters had the edge in rebounds (35-30) and turnovers
(19-22).
There were four ties and eight lead changes in the first half. Lake
Forest led by as many as six points on two different occasions and
31-26 at halftime.
A 23-6 second half run by Carroll turned the Foresters' seven-point
lead into a 51-41 deficit with 7:21 to play in the game. The
visitors, however, outscored the Lake Pioneers 15-2 over the next
five munutes. After the home team pulled back to within a point on
a pair of free throws, Nassin pulled down an offensive rebound and
scored to make it 58-55 with 34 seconds left. Carroll made two more
free throws with 26 seconds to play and, after a missed foul shot
by the Foresters, scored the winning points on a jumper with just
2.4 seconds on the clock.
The Foresters are now tied for second in the MWC standings with St.
Norbert College and willface the Green Knights on their court
tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. A live video webcasts of the game will
