Three Foresters Named All-MWC South

Three Foresters Named All-MWC South

The Midwest Conference released its end-of-season awards for softball on Wednesday and Foresters Kelly Chesnut, Nora Logue, and Whitney Leiderman were All-MWC South Division selections.

Chesnut, a junior pitcher, led Lake Forest with a 2.99 earned run average on the season. She was 5-5 with five complete games, a shutout, and a pair of saves on the year. She also struck out 61 batters and walked just 13 in more than 70 innings of work. She was 2-0 in three starts during league play and earned a complete game victory in the Foresters' 2-1 triumph over Illinois College on May 3 that clinched the MWC South Division title.

Logue, a sophomore center fielder, led the Foresters and ranked among the top five in the conference with a .381 batting average, 631 slugging percentage, and .465 on-base percentage. She shared the team lead with 21 runs scored and tied for second on the squad with five home runs and 16 runs batted in. She was 3-for-6 with a double and a two-run homer in two MWC Championship Tournament games.

Leiderman, a freshman outfielder/catcher, batted .293 overall on the season but hit .333 with a league-high .917 slugging percentage during conference play. She led Lake Forest with 25 runs batted in, 15 walks, and 10 stolen bases. She also tied for the team lead with 21 runs scored and her five home runs matched the squad's second-highest total. Four of her round-trippers and 10 of her RBI came during the Foresters' eight league games.

The Foresters finished the season with an overall record of 17-18 and a Midwest Conference mark of 7-1 to earn the right to host the 2012 MWC Championship Tournament. The team has now had at least three players, including a pitcher, earn all-conference honors each of the last 15 years.
