The Forester softball team was defeated 6-1 and 3-0 by visiting Wheaton College on Saturday. Lake Forest sophomore center fielder Nora Logue belted her first career home run.
Logue's round-tripper came in the final inning of game one and was one of just three Forester base hits in the contest.
Unearned runs plagued Lake Forest pitchers all day. Game one starter Molly Thomsen, a junior, surrendered four of them in the top of the third inning and the Thunder added two more runs in the sixth. Thomsen tossed her third complete game of the season.
Three errors by the home team led to two Wheaton runs in the top of the fourth inning in game two. They were the only runs allowed by senior pitcher Cami Daun in four-and-one-third innings of work. Junior Kelly Chesnut took over for Daun in the fifth inning and escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam. She allowed just one run while recording the final eight Wheaton outs.
The Foresters had three base hits again in the second game, including a triple by sophomore shortstop Sam Ritsema. Ritsema also delivered a relay throw to the plate in the top of the first inning to cut down what would have been the first run of the contest.
Lake Forest fell to 4-8 on the season while Wheaton raised its record to 14-4.
The Foresters will travel to the University of Chicago on Monday for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
