The 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Thursday and Lake Forest was fourth in the rankings.
Voting is done by the SLIAC head men's golf coaches. Each coach votes for all 11 members of the league in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (10 points for first, nine for second, etc.).
Webster University was atop the poll with 92 points, just two more than Illinois College. Webster garnered seven first-place votes and Illinois College three. Spalding University was third with 76 points while the Foresters, who received a first-place vote, was fourth at 73, edging out Knox College by just two points.
Lake Forest was the runner-up at the 2022 SLIAC Championships and the Foresters return their entire lineup, including First Team All-SLIAC honoree James Johnson and Second Teamer Jack Dwyer. Both seniors also finished among the top 10 in the league in 2021.
Ninth-year head coach Brian Bruha's team played six events in the fall and will begin the spring portion of the schedule at Knox's Jim Wetherbee Memorial Invitational March 25-26. Lake Forest will play in five other tournaments, including the Forester Spring Invite on April 14, before traveling to Caseyville, Illinois, for the SLIAC Championships April 23-25. The winner of the conference tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships May 16-19.
