Pat McDonaugh and Joey Valdivia Earn Weekly MWC Honors

Lake Forest College football players Pat McDonaugh and Joey Valdivia were named Midwest Conference Defensive and Offensive Performer of the Week, respectively, on Monday for their performance in Saturday's 35-14 victory at Macalester College.

McDonaugh, a junior linebacker, recorded his first career interception and recorded two tackles for loss among his six stops on the day. Both tackles for loss came in the second half with the Foresters nursing a 21-14 lead. He picked off a pass at the Macalester 45-yardline in the fourth quarter and the visitors scored the final touchdown of the game on the next play. McDonaugh leads the 2016 Foresters with 6.5 tackles for loss on the season and his 27 tackles overall rank eighth on the squad.

Valdivia, a senior running back, carried the ball 30 times for 278 yards and four touchdowns on the day. It was the second straight four-touchdown performance for Valdivia, whose 19 rushing touchdowns and 20 scores overall are program records and the highest total in the nation. His rushing yardage total on the day is the third-highest in school history and his 1,072 yards on the year rank second in the country and third in team annals. Valdivia scored the first points of Saturday's contest on a 57-yard run, gave the visitors a 21-7 lead late in the second quarter on a 12-yard score, and clinched the Forester victory on touchdown runs of 74 and 44 yards during a 40-second span in the fourth quarter.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information. Valdivia also earned the weekly award on September 7.
