The Midwest Conference end-of-season awards for women's soccer were released on Tuesday and the league champion Foresters had five players listed and swept the major awards.
Junior forward Michelle Greeneway earned First Team All-MWC honors for the third straight season and was named MWC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with a program record 33 goals and 79 points. Second place in the conference in those categories had 21 goals and 50 points. Greeneway finished with 15 goals and 37 points during the 10-game conference schedule and added five goals and 14 points in a pair of MWC Tournament games. She scored at least once in all but four contests this season and her 11 game-winning goals are a school record and the second-highest total in the nation. After just three seasons, Greeneway is already the program's all-time leader with 74 goals and 174 points and her 26 assists rank tied-for-sixth.
Junior midfielder Ellen Rogers was selected as the MWC Defensive Player of the Year. She anchored the only defense in the league to allow fewer goals than games played. Rogers also contributed offensively, finishing the season with 11 points on a pair of goals and seven assists.
Joining Greeneway and Rogers on the First Team was junior forward Holly Lesperance, who ranked sixth in the league with 13 goals, tied-for-third with 13 assists, and seventh with 39 points. She became just the fourth player in tea m history to surpass 100 career points and, with a year to play, ranks fifth in team annals with 39 goals and tied-for-ninth with 24 assists. Lesperance was also a First Team All-MWC selection as a freshman and sophomore.
Junior defender Sam Hillis was a Second Team honoree after ranking second in the conference with 19 assists overall and nine in 10 league games. She recorded multiple assists in a game five times, including a program record-tying four against Knox College on November 1. Her assist total for the season is a team record and her 33 career assists rank fourth in school history. Hillis was a First Team All-MWC selection in 2013.
In addition to the 22 players listed on the First and Second Team, there were five Honorable Mention All-MWC selections, including Forester sophomore midfielder Katelyn Hronek. Like Rogers, Hronek made an impact at both ends of the field, helping the defense post six shutouts and contributing on offense with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
Lake Forest head coach T.R. Bell was named MWC Coach of the Year after leading the Foresters to a 21-1-0 overall record and a perfect 10-0-0 mark in conference play. The team set league records for victories, points (239), and assists (81) and its 79 goals rank second in conference history. The Foresters outscored conference opponents 55-12 during the 12 games they played during the regular season and MWC Tournament.
Greeneway is the Foresters' first MWC Offensive Player of the Year while Rogers is the third Defensive Player of the Year in program history. The MWC Coach of the Year award is Bell's fourth in the last 12 seasons.
In addition to claiming the fifth conference championship in team history, Lake Forest made its third appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and advanced to the second round for the first time.
