The Lake Forest College women's basketball team defeated
visiting Knox College 73-58 on Saturday (January 9). The Foresters
are now 8-3 overall this season and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play.
The Prairie Fire fell to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Lake Forest senior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park)
recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and
10 rebounds. She also recorded a career-high seven steals and added
a pair of assists. Senior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park,
Ill./Evergreen Park) shot 8-for-9 from the field and led all
players in the game with 20 points. Freshman guard Sam Schuring
(Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove) knocked down two of three shots from
three-point range and also reached double figure in points with 10.
Senior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) scored eight
points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
The Foresters shot 44.1 percent from the field while limiting Knox
to 36.5 percent. The home team was out-rebounded 46-35 but forced
32 Prairie Fire turnovers while committing just 18.
Lake Forest led by as many as nine points in the first half before
a 16-6 run by Knox gave the visitors a 23-22 advantage, their only
lead of the contest. The Foresters regained the lead and was ahead
33-30 at halftime.
After the Prairie Fire scored the first basket of the second half,
the home team pulled away with 14 points in a row. The margin
reached a game-high 24 points (68-44) with 7:24 to play before Knox
outscored the Foresters 14-5 to close out the contest.
Lake Forest will play a pair of MWC road games next weekend
(January 15-16). Beloit College will host the Foresters at 5:30
Friday evening and the team will travel to Lawrence University for
a 2:00 contest the next afternoon. Live video webcasts of both
