The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 71-54 by the
University of Chicago, the 19th-ranked team in the nation, Friday
evening (December 18) at Hope College's Flying Dutch Classic. Lake
Forest is now 5-3 on the season while the Maroons raised their
record to 7-2.
Senior guard Paige Keasler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led the
Foresters with 10 points. She shot 4-for-6 from the field and made
both of her attempts from three-point range. Senior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and senior center Lisa Nassin
(Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) tied for team-high honors
with seven rebounds apiece and senior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago,
Ill./Marist) dished out three assists.
Lake Forest shot just 26.4 percent from the field, 7-for-21 from
three-point range, and 19-for-28 from the free throw line. The
Maroons connected on 43.4 percent of their field goal attempts,
including seven of 15 from beyond the arc, and missed just four of
22 foul shots. Chicago out-rebounded the Foresters 44-33 but
committed 16 of the game's 29 turnovers.
More than two-and-a-half minutes passed before either team scored
and Chicago had a 9-0 lead five minutes into the contest. The
Foresters trimmed the deficit to six points twice in the first half
but would get no closer. The margin grew to 14 points (36-22) by
halftime.
Lake Forest trailed by 22 points before going on a 10-0 run, making
the score 48-36 with 10:25 to play. The Maroons scored the next
nine points, however, and led by at least 13 the rest of the
game.
The Foresters will take on Finlandia University Saturday afternoon
(December 19) at 1:00 EST. Finlandia was defeated 102-44 by Hope
Friday night. Live statistics will be
available on the Hope College web site.
