Freshman Aaron Helms won a pair of events as the Lake Forest men and women finished fourth at Saturday's Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Wheaton College.
Helms finished first in the 1000-freestyle, the first individual event of the meet, with a time of 10:04.28. He also completed a Forester sweep in the 200-butterfly, prevailing in 2:00.74 shortly after junior Rachel Trevillian won the women's race in 2:14.14. Lake Forest's only other victory of the day was turned in by sophomore Max Rowland in the 500-freestyle, which he completed in 4:53.81.
Freshman Alec Pittman posted a pair of runner-up finishes, with both coming in races won by teammates. His times of 10:10.42 in the 1000-freestyle and 4:56.24 in the 500-freestyle were good for second place. Lake Forest actually had the top three finishers in the 500-freestyle with freshman Jeff Nebel following Rowland and Pittman with a third-place time of 5:06.20.
Additional runner-up performances were recorded by freshman Graeme Witte in the men's 100-freestyle (49.60 seconds) and sophomore Susan Guo in the women's 500-freestyle (5:26.67).
Hope College won the women's competition with 605 points and Wheaton finished first on the men's side with 558. Gaps of more than 100 points separated each of the women's teams with Wheaton finishing second (490.5), Kalamazoo College third (359.5) and Lake Forest fourth (255). The Forester men's 396 points came up just shy of third-place Hope's 400.5 and runner-up Kalamazoo's 431.5.
The Foresters will travel to Lawrence University next Saturday for a double-dual meet that begins at 1:00 p.m. and also features the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
