Thursday was the second of four days of competition at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet in Indianapolis. Forester freshman Sam Freedberg finished 21st in the morning preliminaries of the 400-individual medley and junior Christina Pekar placed 18th in the 1-meter diving prelims in the afternoon.
Freedberg's time of 4:01.31 was good for seventh in his heat and 21st overall. The top 16 in each event advance to the evening finals (top eight in championship final, 9-16 in consolation final) and he was exactly one second off the 16th place time. He was also just a quarter-of-a-second slower than the school record time he posted at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet on February 15.
Pekar tallied 373.05 points in the 1-meter diving competition, and was less than two points shy of finishing in the top 16 and reaching the consolation final. Pekar was outside the top 16 for most of the competition before jumping from 20th place to 16th on her ninth dive. She was still hanging on to that spot until a pair of competitors passed her in the final round.
Both Foresters have one event remaining at the national meet. Freedberg will swim the 200-butterfly on Friday and Pekar will compete in 3-meter diving on Saturday.
