The Forester men's tennis team prevailed 7-2 at Ripon College Wednesday night in the first Midwest Conference match of the year for both programs.
Playing higher in Lake Forest's singles and doubles lineups than ever before, junior Zach Cho clinched the match when he finished off a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #3 singles. He and senior Brant Christensen had defeated their counterparts at #2 doubles 8-1 for the first team point of the night.
Christensen, sophomore Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk, and senior Chase Garber were also victorious twice on the night. Vyshyvanyuk and Garber defeated the Red Hawks' top doubles team 8-2 and they added matching 6-0, 6-1 wins at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Christensen took both sets 6-1 at #6 and freshman Eduardo Manuitt capped off the night with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #4.
Lake Forest evened its overall record on the season at 2-2 while Ripon fell to 2-4.
The Foresters will play at home for the first time this year Sunday afternoon against St. Norbert College. Lake Forest's Senior Day match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be played on the outdoor courts on campus.
