The Forester men's soccer team shut out visiting Illinois College 4-0 on Saturday in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. Sophomore Mahir Mameledzija scored a pair of goals to help Lake Forest improve its overall record to 8-0-1.
It was Mameledzija's third two-goal game of the season and the sixth of his career. He started the scoring just five minutes and three seconds into the contest with sophomore Steven Johnson and senior Chris Haught-Thompson assisting on the play.
Senior Jerrold Rosema headed in a pass from sophomore Jordan Hartman at 30:49 and the home team led 2-0 at halftime. It was Rosema's third goal of the season.
Lake Forest out-shot the Blueboys 11-1 in the first half and 10-3 in the second.
Mameledzija netted his second goal of the game at 56:33. The unassisted score was also his team-high eighth tally of the season.
Sophomore Charlie Brey closed out the scoring at 72:24 with his first goal of the year. He was assisted by Jordan Hartman.
The Foresters will host a non-conference game against Millikin University Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
