Sophomore Davis DeKorte's 73 was Thursday's second-best round and Lake Forest College also ranks second as a team after day one of the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.
It was a career-best score for DeKorte, who is just two shots off the lead. His previous low round was a 74, which he posted on Sunday at the St. Norbert Invitational.
Freshman Elijah Collins was next on the team with a 78, which tied him for eighth place in the 46-player field. It was his best round of the year by three strokes.
Fellow freshman Parker Hill came in with an 80, which tied him for 11th place, while freshman Ricky Schmidt and sophomore Jacob Soyka are tied for 13th with a score of 81. Sophomore Durham Ghelfi's 83 has him tied-for-24th.
Lake Forest's score of 312 is nine shots behind leader Carroll University and one ahead of third-place Monmouth College. Defending champion St. Norbert College is fourth with a round of 320 and Grinnell College fifth at 329. Illinois College (334), Knox College (341), and Lawrence University (350) round out the field.
Friday's second round will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the third and final round on Saturday is also scheduled to start at 10:00.
