Freshman Jordan Mandel shot a season-best round of 78 to lead the Lake Forest College men's golf team to a tied-for-eighth-place finish at Wisconsin Lutheran College's WLC Spring Invitational on Saturday. The event was held at Morningstar's Golfer's Club in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Mandel tied for 19th place out of 81 competitors on the 6,826-yard, par-72 course. Mandel became the sixth player on the team to shoot in the 70's this year.
Fellow freshman Ricky Schmidt was next on the team and his round of 80 was tied-for-26th in the field. Sophomore Davis DeKorte finished tied-for-36th with a score of 81, two shots ahead of classmate Durham Ghelfi, who tied for 51st place.
Carthage College won the 15-team event in 297 total strokes, 11 fewer than runner-up Milwaukee School of Engineering. Lake Forest and Carroll University each posted a score of 322.
The Foresters needed 334 strokes to complete their round and placed tied-for-11th in a 13-team field at the same event in 2015.
The entire Lake Forest team will be in action on Sunday at the Forester Spring Invite, which will be held at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. and include 15 other schools.
