Freshman Ricky Schmidt finished 19th out of 40 competitors at Knox College's Prairie Fire Classic over the weekend to lead the Forester men's golf team to a tied-for-fourth place finish.
Schmidt completed Friday's first round in 82 strokes and improved by five shots on Saturday. His day two score of 77 was his sixth in the 70s in 11 rounds this year.
After placing fifth on the squad with an 84 on Friday, sophomore Durham Ghelfi carded a team-best 76 on Saturday to finish tied-for-20th in the field, one shot behind Schmidt. Fellow sophomore Benjamin Crosby was next on the Foresters with a two-day score of 182, which ranked tied-for-23rd overall. David DeKorte, another sophomore, finished 28th with a score of 164 and freshman Parker Hill was tied-for-31st at 168.
St. Francis University and Illinois Central College tied for first out of the seven teams in the tournament with a two-day score of 593, just 17 strokes over par. Carroll University was third at 620 and the Foresters tied with Illinois College in fourth place at 643, one shot ahead of Augustana College. Host Knox rounded out the field with a score of 690.
The Augustana Invitational is the next event on Lake Forest's schedule. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, April 8, at noon with Saturday's round two starting at 9:00 a.m.
