Lake Forest College men's basketball player Eric Porter was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance at last weekend's Midwest Conference Tournament.
Porter, a junior guard, scored a game-high 23 points as the Foresters upset league champion and tournament host St. Norbert College, the 13th ranked team in the country, 73-70 in the semifinals Friday night. He knocked down three of six attempts from three-point range and kept the visitors in the game by scoring 12 of the team's 26 points in the first half. Porter made three more three-pointers in the second half as Lake Forest pulled ahead and held on for the victory.
The Foresters were defeated 81-72 by Ripon College in the tournament final on Saturday. Porter connected on three of eight attempts from beyond the arc and finished with 15 points in the contest.
Porter finished the 2016-17 season as the team's leading scorer with 13.8 points per game. He shot 40.7 percent from long range on the year and his 72 three-pointers tied the second-highest single-season total in program history. After just two years at the College, Porter already ranks seventh in team history with 121 three-pointers.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Porter also earned the award once last season.
