Junior guard Eric Porter scored a team-high 24 points in the Lake Forest College men's basketball team's 75-73 victory at Ripon College on Saturday.

Porter made six three-pointers in the game, the last breaking a 52-52 tie with 9:45 remaining and giving the visitors the lead for good. The Foresters were ahead by as many as 18 points late in the first half but Ripon closed to within a dozen (45-33) at halftime and eventully took a one-point lead with more than 12 minutes to play.

Sophomore guard Jordan Moran, who was next on the Foresters with 15 points, followed up Porter's tiebreaking three-pointer with six straight points but the Red Hawks closed back to within two at 61-59 with four minutes left. The margin was three before back-to-back layups by Moran and a pair of free throws by senior forward Jim Schick made it a nine-point game once again with two minutes on the clock. After the teams traded baskets, a Red Hawk three-pointer trimmed the lead to six. The home team forced a turnover but missed on another three-point attempt. Porter was fouled with 21 ticks left and made both free throws, extending the lead to eight. Two Ripon three-pointer in the final 10 seconds closed out the scoring and the Forester hung on for the victory.

Schick also reached double figures with 10 points and led all players in the game with 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Danny Sotos and senior guard Mike Rueffer each scored seven points and led the visitors with five assists apiece.

There were no glaring statistical advantages for either team. Ripon shot slightly better from the floor, making 49.2 percent of field goal attempts and 12 of 24 three-pointers. Lake Forest shot 46.8 percent from the field and 10-for-24 from beyond the arc. The Foresters outscored the home team 7-3 from the foul line, had a slight 33-32 edge in rebounds, and committed just six turnovers to the Red Hawks' 10.

The victory was the 11th in the last 13 games for Lake Forest, which is now 12-7 overall and tied with Ripon for second place in the Midwest Conference standings with a league recod of 10-4. The Red Hawks fell to 14-5 overall.

The Foresters will host league-leading St. Norbert College Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
