The Forester women's tennis team was defeated 6-3 at Cornell College on Sunday in the team's final dual match before next weekend's Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments. Lake Forest junior Christi Valicenti prevailed at the top spot in both the doubles and singles lineups.
Valicenti and sophomore Lexi Chionis accounted for all three of the Foresters' team points. They posted an 8-5 victory in doubles but Cornell came out on top in both of the other two doubles matches.
After the Rams extended their lead with a win at #6 singles, Valicenti finished off a 6-1, 6-0 decision at #1 and Chionis triumphed 6-3 in both sets at #3. Cornell, however, posted victories at the other three singles positions to close out the match.
Valicenti now has 93 career victories in singles and doubles combined, the third-highest total in program history behind Brittany Richardson's 95 from 2002-05 and Melika Celebic's school record 98 from 2009-13.
Lake Forest finished the fall portion of the schedule with an overall record of 10-4 and MWC mark of 7-3. Cornell is now 15-3 roverall and 9-1 in the league. Both team will compete in the MWC Individual Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin, next Saturday and Sunday.
