Foresters Compete at Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular

Senior Lily McCarthy won both of the distance events at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope College on Saturday. The Lake Forest College men's and women's swimming and diving teams placed fourth at the event.

McCarthy's time of 11:10.79 in the 1000-freestyle was nearly 19 seconds faster than the runner-up, Forester sophomore Ani Karagianis, who completed the race in 11:29.61. Lake Forest also had the top two finishers in the women's 500-freestyle with McCarthy prevailing in 5:24.05 and freshman Susan Guo placing second in 5:29.65.

The Lake Forest men's team had three event winners. Senior David Bunting turned in the first, edging out the runner-up in the 200-IM by just 0.24 seconds and finishing in 2:01.58. Junior Heath Ogawa then swept the diving competition with 304.50 points off the 1-meter board and 328.60 in the 3-meter event.

Additional second-place finishes were posted by Forester freshman Max Rowland in the 1000-freestyle (10:42.91) and sophomore Rachel Trevillian in the 200-butterfly (2:21.06).

Freshman Evan Weller was third in the 200-butterfly (2:08.57), as was junior Frederick Weichmann in the 200-backstroke (2:02.75) and Rowland in the 500-freestyle (5:07.58).

Also placing in the top four were Lake Forest freshman Corynn Christjansen in the 200-freestyle (2:06.99), sophomore Lizzie Johns in 1-meter diving (237.40 points), senior Brigit Dunne in the 200-backstroke (2:21.43), and senior Matt Demirs in 3-meter diving (217.35).

With 615 points, Wheaton College won the men's team competition by 146 over the hosts. Kalamazoo College placed third with 424 points and the Foresters fourth with 364. The Hope women were victorious with 589 points and Wheaton was second with 504. Kalamazoo's 389 points were good for third ahead of Lake Forest's 332.

The Foresters will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater next Saturday for a double-dual meet against the hosts and Lawrence University. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
