Senior Brigit Dunne and freshman Susan Guo each won an event but the Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 147-84 and the Forester men fell 142-91 to visiting Carthage College on Saturday.
Dunne finished first in the 100m-backstroke in 1:10.79, edging out the Lady Reds' top swimmer in the event by .38 seconds. Guo's victory in the 100m-butterfly was more convincing, taking the race by more than two seconds with a time of 1:09.49. Dunne and Guo also posted the fastest times during their parts of the 200m-mdley relay but the Foresters settled for second in the event.
Other victories for the Lake Forest women included senior Lily McCarthy's narrow win in the 400m-freestyle. She trailed the eventual runner-up by more than half a second with 50 meters remaining in the race and came back to win by just .07 seconds with a time of 4:50.65. Forester sophomore Lizzie Johns swept the diving events, taking the 1-meter competition with 225.25 points and earning a career-best 209.00 points off the 3-meter board.
Lake Forest also swept the men's diving events with junior Heath Ogawa winning the 3-meter with 316.30 points and the 1-meter with 294.25. The only indivual Forester victory in the swimming events came from senior David Bunting in the 200m-freestyle, who posted a time of 2:01.85.
It was the season opener for the Foresters, who will also be in action at home next Saturday against Carroll University. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m.
