Lake Forest College swimmer Lily McCarthy was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at the A3 Carthage Classic last weekend.
McCarthy, a senior, helped lead the Foresters to a fourth-place finish at the 10-team meet. She earned 102 total points, the 10th-highest total at the competition.
The meet began Thursday night and McCarthy was the runner-up in the 1650-freestyle, completing the race in 18:06.06, a time more than 40 seconds faster than anyone from the other teams in the conference this season.
McCarthy competed in a pair of events on Friday, finishing 17th in the 100-freestyle in 56.95 seconds and third in the 500-freestyle in 5:17.41. She also anchored Lake Forest's 400-medley relay team, which placed fifth in 4:10.16. Her time in the 500-freestyle and the Foresters' time in the relay are tops in the league while her 100-freestyle performance ranks fifth.
The meet concluded on Saturday and McCarthy posted a seventh-place finish in the 200-freestyle. Her time of 2:00.60 ranks second in the conference (behind Forester freshman Corynn Chrstjansen). She also swam on the 400-freestyle relay team that turned in another MWC-best time of 3:43.30.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information.
