Junior Lauren Dalecky was the runner-up in the 100m-breaststroke but the Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams finished behind visiting Olivet Nazarene University and the University of Chicago in a triangular meet on Saturday.
Dalecky finished in 1:20.68 edging out the third-place finisher from Chicago by 0.22 seconds. It was the Foresters' highest finish in a swimming event on the day.
Freshman diver Heath Ogawa turned in the home team's only victories of the afternoon, winning the 1-meter competition with 319.85 points and the 3-meter event with a score of 292.25. Sophomore Matt Denirs was third off both boards and freshman Rachael Purgerson also finished third in the women's 1-meter event.
Other third-place finishes for the Foresters were turned in by sophomore Lily McCarthy in the women's 100m-freestyle (1:04.29) and senior Kristofer Korth in the men's 400m-freestyle (4:21.27). The Lake Forest men's 200m-freestyle relay team of sophomores David Bunting and Jakobi McClellan and juniors Travis Johnson and Orion Huey also finished third with a time of 1:40.05.
McCarthy was also fourth in the women's 800m-freestyle (9:51.62), as was sophomore Toni Corbani in the women's 200m-freestyle (2:19.69), junior Emily Bowens in the women's 100m-backstroke (1:09.17), and junior Virgil Thomas in the men's 100m-backstroke (1:03.56).
The Forester women finished with 115 points. Chicago, the eighth-ranked team in the nation, won with 295 points and NAIA member Olivet Nazarene placed second with 196. On the men's side, Olivet Nazarene finished first with 260 points, 51 more than #10 Chicago.
Lake Forest diver will compete at the UIC Diving Invitational next Saturday. The entire team will then travel to Grinnell College for the 2016 Midwest Conference Championships February 19-21.
