Lake Forest College's Heath Ogawa was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for his school record-breaking performance in Saturday's Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope College.
Ogawa, a freshman diver, broke the program's two oldest records. His six-dive score of 294.80 in the 3-meter event was good for second place at the meet but was 8.60 points better than the mark set by Guy Stehley in 1980. Ogawa also won the 1-meter competition with 297.75 points, shattering Stehley's six-dive record of 271.00, which was set one week after his 3-meter mark.
Ogawa's scores this season have qualified him for the NCAA Division III Regional Diving Meet at Denison University February 26-27.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information. Ogawa also earned the award on November 3.
