Six Lake Forest divers traveled to the University of Illinois at Chicago on Saturday for the UIC Division Invitational. Sophomore Christina Pekar led the Forester contingent taking on several NCAA Division I competitors.
Pekar placed fifth out of 21 divers in both events, finishing the 1-meter competition with a 6-dive score of 246.55 points and tallying 250.45 points off the 3-meter board. All four of the divers ahead of her in both events were from NCAA Division I institutions.
Senior Sam Gardner was the next Forester in both events. She placed sixth off the higher board with 249.95 points and 12th in the 1-meter competition with 211.70 points.
Sophomore Sarah Pekar finished 13th (210.25 points) off the 1-meter board while senior Alyx Smagacz and freshman Lara Winkler were 19th (158.70) and 21st (136.45), respectively. In the 3-meter competition, Sarah Pekar placed 16th (209.45), Smagacz 19th (148.10), and Winkler 20th (145.30).
Junior Matt Perry placed 12th overall but third among eight NCAA Division III divers in the 1-meter with a score of 220.10 points. He was also 11th overall and second among Division III competitors with 213.95 points off the 3-meter board.
The next meet on the Foresters' schedule is the 2013 Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College February 15-17.
