The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams each placed fourth at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular on Saturday, one day after returning from their training trip to California. Forest junior Garr Punnett won the 200-butterfly by two-and-a-half seconds.
Punnett posted a time of 1:57.53 while the runner-up from Kalamazoo completed the race in 2:00.04. The Foresters' other two victories on the day were turned in by members of the women's team. Senior Becky Shaak placed first in the 200-breaststroke in 2:30.15 and sophomore Christina Pekar won the 1-meter diving competition with a 6-dive score of 241.15 points.
Several Lake Forest swimmers placed among the top four in at least one individual event, beginning with junior Loren Dutca and Mitchell Reiner, who both finished third in the 1000-freestyle. Dutca posted a time of 11:08.86 and Reiner 10:21.84.
Junior Zach Wenner was the runner-up in the 200-freestyle in 1:47.72.
Shaak added a third-place finish in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:14.73 and freshman Kristopher Korth was fourth in the men's race in 2:04.30.
Senior Sam Gardner's 1-meter diving score of 240.30 points was less than a point behind Pekar, giving the Foresters a 1-2 finish in the event. Senior Matt Perry was third in the men's competition with 196.30 points.
In addition to Punnett's victory in the 200-fly, sophomore Mark Wilcoxen was third in the race in 2:03.90 and junior David Albion finished fourth in 2:05.10.
Freshman Alexandra Dunn was third in the 100-freestyle with a time of 55.94.
Both the Forester women and men had an individual placed fourth in the 200-backstroke. Sophomore Kelsie Miller finished in 2:16.56 and freshman Emile Siroit completed the race in 2:05.95.
Dutca finished fourth in the 500-freestyle in 5:30.59.
Gardner and Pekar were second and third in women's 3-meter diving, posting scores of 238.70 and 234.05, respectively. Perry's 195.45 was good for second place in the men's event.
After Shaak won the women's 200-breaststoke, freshman Kristopher Korth finished fourth in the men's with a Midwest Conference-best time of 2:14.38.
The only Lake Forest relay to place among the leaders was the men's 400-freestyle. Punnett, sophomore Kevin Barbrick, Wenner, and senior Diego Ledesma placed third in 3:17.09.
The Foresters will competed in their final home meet of the season next Saturday when they host Carroll University and Lawrence University at 1:00.
