The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams defeated visiting Lawrence University and Carroll University on Saturday. The Foresters won 23 of 26 events on the day, including two by freshman Kristopher Korth.
Korth touched the wall first in the 200m-freestyle in 2:02.75 and the 100m-freestyle in 56.44 seconds. He was one of three Lake Forest swimmer to win a pair of individual events. Senior Becky Shaak also prevailed in the 200m-freestyle (2:14.13) and later added a victory in the 400m-freestyle (4:39.14). Freshman Jared Tennison finished first in the 50m-freestyle in 25.47 seconds and in the 100m-butterfly in 1:02.93.
The Forester men were less than a second away from the pool records in both relay events. Junior Garr Punnett, senior Alex Marks, sophomore Kevin Barbrick, and junior Zach Wenner won the 200m-medley relay in 1:50.04. Punnett, Barbrick, Wenner, and senior Diego Ledesma closed out the meet with a victory and a time of 1:38.49 in the 200m-freestyle relay. The pool records in those events are 1:49.24 and 1:38.00, respectively.
The home team also swept the women's relays. Sophomroe Kelsie Miller, Shaak, and freshmen Brooke Rowley and Alexandra Dunn started the meet with a victory and time of 2:03.13 in the 200m-medley relay. Dunn, junior Loren Dutca, Miller, and senior Kelsey Hoeper prevailed in the 200m-freestyle relay by more than five seconds in 1:56.70.
Dutca won the women's 800m-freestyle in 9:46.98 and Wenner took the men's race in 9:14.39. After Shaak and Korth swept the 200m-freestyle, Hoeper (29.60 seconds) and Tennison did the same in the 50m-freestyle. Junior Sarah Stoklosa posted a winning time of 2:40.16 in the 200m-IM and Punnett followed with a first-place time of 2:12.56 in the men's race, giving Lake Forest a 10-event winning streak going into the diving competition.
Senior Sam Gardner amassed 238.10 points to win the women's 1-meter competition and sophomore Christina Pekar's victorious 3-meter score of 267.30 points qualifies her in that event for the NCAA Central Region Diving Meet at Calvin College on March 1-2.
Freshman Arlyn Bateman started a new Forester winning streak with a victory in the women's 100m-butterfly (1:13.68) and Tennison kept in going in the men's race. Dunn won the 100m-freestyle in 1:02.06 and Korth followed with his second win of the day. Miller and Ledesma swept the 100m-backstroke with times of 1:10.65 and 1:04.75, respectively, Shaak won the 400m-freestyle, and freshman Emile Siroit triumphed in the men's 400m-freestyle with a time of 4:30.92.
Marks posted the squad's final individual event victory of the day when he won the 100m-breaststroke in 1:08.25.
The Forester men are now 6-0 and the women 5-1 in dual meets this season. They will compete at Illinois Institute of Technology next Friday 6:00 p.m. The divers with also travel to the University of Illinois Chicago the next day for the UIC Diving Invitational.
