Lake Forest College softball player Ashley Cuthbert was named Second Team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Cuthbert, a sophomore, was condidered a utility player because she started 11 games at catcher, seven in the outfield, and three as the designated player. Her 2011 batting average of .465 ranks fourth in team history, her .831 slugging percentage is second, and her seven home runs are tied for fifth. She also led the squad with a .494 on-base percentage.
After missing the Foresters' first eight games of the year due to illness, Cuthbert had a pinch-hit double in her season debut, beginning a team-best 10-game hitting streak. She finished the season with at least one base hit in 19 of 22 appearances.
The 2011 Foresters were 14-18 overall and 9-3 in Midwest Conference play. They posted an 11-10 overall record and 9-1 mark in the league with Cuthbert in the starting lineup.
